Baking Cupcakes

Once you batter is ready, the next thing you need to do is pour it into the cupcake liners. Fill the liners about two-thirds to three-quarters full. That comes to about three tablespoons. Take care not to pour too much batter otherwise it will overflow and create a huge mess while they bake.

You can use the following ways to fill the cupcake liners with the batter:

  • For thick batter, you can use two tea spoons to scoop it into the liners. You can also use a medium ice-cream scoop.
  • Get a plastic paper bag that can be resealed, fill it with batter and make a small hole at the corner. Squeeze the bags gently for the batter to pour into the liners. To prevent a mess, position your finger on the hole as you move from one liner to another.
  • Use a measuring cup for thin batter. The spout will make it easier to pour in the batter.

Once you are done pouring the batter into the cupcake liners, place them in the preheated oven. Most cakes are normally baked between 15 to 25minutes. It really depends on the batch of cupcakes you are making. For mini cupcakes, most recipes will require them to bake for 10 to 15 minutes in a 350°F oven. For larger cakes most recipes allow them to bake for about 25 minutes in a 350°F oven.

After the baking time is up, you will need to check if the cupcakes are done. Do this by inserting a wooden toothpick into the middle of the cupcakes. If the toothpick is clean when you pull it out, then the cupcakes are ready. If some batter remains on the toothpick however, then the cupcakes need to bake a little bit longer. In this case, put them back in the oven for a few more minutes.

When the cupcakes are done, let them cool in the pan for 10 to 15 minutes before removing them. Cupcakes are very delicate when hot and they can break easily. It is recommended to cool them before removing them from the pans to prevent breaking and tearing. Once they have cooled use a thin metal spatula to lift them off the pan.

After that place them on a wire rack and let them cool before frosting and decorating them. The wire rack lets the air circulate around the whole cupcake.
